"Without pressure on Washington from citizens like you, e-waste disposal will remain as unregulated and confusing as it is today."- Ev Boyle, Editor, Measy
Electronic waste is in a problem with international scope. It will take not only more personal responsibility to turn the tide, but participation from legislators and manufacturers.
E-Waste and the US
The United States is the only industrialized nation that did not ratify the 1992 Basel Convention concerning the disposal of potentially hazardous electronics. Additionally, the US Environmental Protection Agency only polices the disposal of old television and computer monitor tubes, leaving countless other pollution sources completely unregulated.
Do it!
- Contact television manufacturers and tell them you want less toxic electronics and more recycling.
- Write a letter to your local newspaper and create more awareness about this 21st century problem
- Learn more about your state’s electronic waste laws and contact your representative or senator directly to demand change…it actually works.
